Xed Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic medication. It works by blocking the breakdown of fibrin, a protein that helps blood clot. Tranexamic acid is used to treat or prevent excessive bleeding from major trauma, postpartum bleeding, surgery, tooth extraction, nosebleeds, and heavy menstruation. It is also used to treat hereditary angioedema, a condition that causes swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat.
